Aspect ratios for every platform
Every platform rewards a different frame. The rule of thumb: crop to 9:16 for anything full-screen on a phone, 1:1 or 4:5 for feeds, and 16:9 for anything watched on a desktop or TV.
The crop is taken from the centre, so it works best with the subject near the middle. Going from a landscape source to vertical cuts a lot off the sides, so check in the preview that faces and captions survive the crop before downloading. If what matters sits to one side, move the picture inside the frame in the full editor instead.

Crop, resize, or trim?
These get mixed up constantly. Crop cuts away the EDGES of the picture, changing what is in the frame. Resize scales the WHOLE picture to a different resolution. Trim cuts TIME off the start or end of the clip.

What aspect ratios can I crop to?
Four: 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 1:1 for square feed posts and 4:5 for Instagram portrait. The crop is taken from the centre, and nothing is stretched or letterboxed.
Does cropping reduce quality?
The kept part is re-encoded at high quality. What changes how sharp it looks is whether it has to be enlarged to fill the new frame. A 1920 x 1080 recording cropped to 9:16 comes back as a 1080 x 1920 file holding the middle 32% of the width, drawn 1.78 times larger, so it looks a little softer. A 4K original is cut from a strip 1215 pixels wide and is still 1080 x 1920 on the free plan, so nothing is enlarged.
How do I crop a video for Instagram?
Crop to 9:16 for Reels and Stories, 4:5 for feed posts, or 1:1 for a square. Pick the ratio, check in the preview that your subject is inside the frame, and download.
What if my subject is not in the middle?
This tool crops from the centre, so it keeps the middle of the picture. If the subject sits to one side, open the clip in the full REQO editor, move the picture inside the new frame and export from there. That is free too.
Can I crop a video on my phone?

What is the difference between cropping and resizing a video?
Cropping changes WHAT is in the frame by cutting away edges. Resizing keeps the whole frame and changes how large it is. To go from horizontal to vertical, crop; to go from 4K to 1080p, resize.
