Every platform rewards a different frame. The rule of thumb: crop to 9:16 for anything full-screen on a phone, 1:1 or 4:5 for feeds, and 16:9 for anything watched on a desktop or TV.
Crop with your subject placed slightly above center. Vertical formats cut aggressively into the top and bottom of a landscape source, so check that faces and captions survive the crop before downloading.
