When 480p is the right export
480p exists for hard limits: an upload cap you cannot get under any other way, a preview copy for review, or a recipient on a genuinely slow connection.
Do not use it for anything anyone will judge you on. Text becomes unreadable and faces get mushy. Compressing a 720p file usually beats dropping to 480p.

When should I export at 480p?
Only when a size limit leaves you no choice, or when you are sending a rough preview for feedback rather than a finished video.
Is 480p or heavy compression better?
For most footage, compressing at 720p looks better than 480p at a high bitrate. Try compression first.
Does the aspect ratio change?
No. The source aspect ratio is preserved, so nothing is stretched or cut. To change the shape of the frame, use the crop tool instead.
