LinkedIn video is watched in a scrolling feed on a phone more often than people expect. Square at 1080 x 1080 takes noticeably more screen than 16:9 while staying neutral enough for a professional context.
Landscape 16:9 still makes sense for anything demo-shaped: a product walkthrough, a screen recording, a webinar clip. Vertical 9:16 works for talking-head clips and short updates.

Cropping changes what is inside the frame by cutting the edges away. Resizing keeps the whole frame and changes how many pixels it is drawn with. Going from a landscape recording to a vertical post is a crop, and something has to leave the picture.
