Square video earns more of the feed on mobile than landscape without committing you to a fully vertical crop, which is why 1:1 at 1080 x 1080 remains the safe default for Facebook feed posts.

Facebook Reels and Stories are full-screen 9:16 at 1080 x 1920, exactly like Instagram. If the clip is going there rather than the feed, crop vertical instead.

Cropping is not resizing

Cropping changes what is inside the frame by cutting the edges away. Resizing keeps the whole frame and changes how many pixels it is drawn with. Going from a landscape recording to a vertical post is a crop, and something has to leave the picture.
