How it works

Wipe Transition in 3 steps

  1. Upload your first clip

Drag and drop a video, or click to browse. Anything under 1GB.

  2. Add the next clip

Use Add another video for each clip that follows. They play in the order you add them.

  3. Wipe is already selected

The transition is pre-set at 0.5 seconds and goes on every join. Choose 0.25, 0.5 or 1 seconds, or another transition, in the panel.

  4. Merge and download

Create a free account to download the finished MP4.

What a wipe shows, and when it fits

A wipe replaces one picture with another along a moving edge. Here the edge is a straight vertical line that starts at the right side of the frame and travels left: everything to its right is the next clip, everything to its left is still the first. Half way through, the frame is split down the middle, with the first clip on the left and the next one on the right. Neither clip moves or fades; one is simply uncovered.

Because the edge is visible, a wipe draws attention to the change in a way a crossfade does not. That suits a deliberate turn: a before and an after, the next step of a tutorial, a move to another speaker or place. Used at every join of a long video it becomes a tic, so most edits keep it for the changes that matter.

Lengths are 0.25, 0.5 or 1 seconds, and the sound crossfades underneath while the edge travels. In the full REQO editor, which is free, the wipe can also run to the right, up or down, and there are slides, where the new clip pushes the old one out of the frame.

FAQ

Wipe Transition: questions

Which way does the wipe move?

From right to left: the next clip appears at the right edge and the line between the two clips travels to the left edge. This page does that one direction. The full REQO editor, which is free, has all four.

Is a wipe the same as a slide?

No. In a wipe both pictures stay where they are and a line uncovers the new one. In a slide the new clip moves in and pushes the old one out. Slides are in the full REQO editor, not on this page.

Do the clips need to be the same size?

No. Every clip is fitted to the frame of the first one you add, and a clip of another shape is cropped to fill it, so both sides of the wipe fill their part of the frame.

Is adding a wipe transition free?

Yes. Add the wipe and preview free, and a free account downloads the result. Free exports and share pages include a small REQO badge. Go Pro to remove it.
