How it works

How to add Portuguese subtitles

  1. Upload or record

Drop a file into the editor, or record straight from the browser. Nothing installs.

  2. Generate the English captions

Whisper transcribes the audio and cuts it into timed lines you can edit as text.

  3. Translate to Portuguese

Pick Portuguese in the captions panel. The timings stay put; only the words change.

  4. Export, burn in or dub

Download an SRT, burn the Portuguese captions into the video, or generate a Portuguese voiceover.

Brazil and Portugal are not interchangeable

The two written standards differ in vocabulary, in how the second person is handled and in some spelling, and an audience notices immediately which one they are reading. There is no toggle here, so the honest description is that you get a translation and then make it yours on the lines that matter.

In practice that is a small number of captions in most videos. The timings do not move while you do it.

Expansion is at the Spanish end, not the German end

Portuguese runs roughly 20 to 30% longer than English, so the same warning applies: captions gain lines, and a two-line caption can become three. The editor re-wraps on the translated text, so what you see in the preview is what burns.

Where a line still runs long, shortening the text is the fix, and it is a text edit rather than a re-cut.

FAQ

Portuguese subtitle questions

Is this Brazilian or European Portuguese?

The translation gives you a neutral starting point rather than picking a standard. Adjust the lines where the two differ; the timings stay where they are.

Do the ã, õ and ç characters burn correctly?

Yes. The full Portuguese character set is in the caption fonts, so it renders in the file and in the burned-in video.

Can I generate a Portuguese voiceover?

Yes. Portuguese has an AI dubbing voice, so a spoken track is available as well as subtitles.

Can I keep the English captions too?

Yes. The English track stays; the translation is a separate language you can switch between and export on its own.
