Why convert 3GP to MP4?
3GP was designed to squeeze video down small enough for 3G phones. Anything recorded in it is low resolution by definition, and modern devices mostly refuse to open it.
The practical problem: Modern phones and browsers no longer support 3GP reliably. AMR audio inside is not readable by most editors. Resolution is capped so low that anything but MP4 is wasted effort.
MP4 solves that. Plays natively on every phone, browser, TV and editing app with no extra codecs. Every upload form accepts it, from YouTube and LinkedIn to Slack and email. H.264 keeps files small enough to send while still looking sharp at 1080p.
3GP came off pre-smartphone handsets, so the source resolution is low and no conversion can add detail back. What MP4 buys you is a file that modern phones, browsers and editors will actually open.

Does converting 3GP to MP4 reduce the quality?
Converting re-encodes the video, so it is not bit-for-bit identical. We encode at a high quality target, which keeps the result visually indistinguishable from the 3GP on normal viewing. What changes is the container and the codec. MP4 holds: H.264 video, AAC audio. Converting the same file back and forth repeatedly will eventually show, so keep your original.
How large a file can I convert?
