Why convert WMV to MOV?
WMV is Microsoft’s Windows Media format. It shows up in old corporate video libraries and PowerPoint exports, and it stops dead the moment a file has to leave Windows.
The practical problem: macOS, iOS and Android need extra software, and usually just fail. Browsers cannot play WMV, so it can never be embedded on a page. Its compression is generations behind H.264, so files are bigger than they need to be.

Converting re-encodes the video, so it is not bit-for-bit identical. We encode at a high quality target, which keeps the result visually indistinguishable from the WMV on normal viewing. What changes is the container and the codec. MOV holds: H.264, HEVC or ProRes. Converting the same file back and forth repeatedly will eventually show, so keep your original.
How large a file can I convert?
