How it works

How to record your screen on Windows

1

Open the recorder

Open REQO in Chrome or Edge on your Windows machine and hit record. There is no installer, no extension and no account needed to start.

2

Pick what to capture

Choose a screen, a single window or a browser tab, and add your webcam and microphone if you want them.

3

Stop, edit, share

The moment you stop, the recording opens in the editor. Trim it, cut filler words out of the transcript, add captions, then download it or send a link.

What Windows already gives you, and where it stops

Windows ships two recorders. Xbox Game Bar (Win + G, or Win + Alt + R to start recording straight away) captures a single application window, and the Snipping Tool in Windows 11 records a region of the screen. Both save an MP4 and neither asks for an install.

The catch with Game Bar is the one nobody mentions until they hit it: it will not record the desktop or File Explorer, only an app window. So the moment your demo involves dragging a file or showing a folder, it stops being an option.

The bigger catch applies to both: you end up with a raw file and nothing to do with it. No trimming the ten seconds where you were finding the right window, no cutting the sentence you fumbled, no captions, and no link to send. That is where a browser recorder with an editor attached earns its place.

Recording a Teams or Zoom call on Windows

Both apps have their own recording, and both put the file somewhere corporate and hard to edit. Recording the call yourself as a browser tab or window keeps the footage in your hands and lets you cut it down to the two minutes worth keeping before anyone else sees it.

Check the room first: recording other people usually needs their consent, and in some places it is a legal requirement rather than a courtesy.

FAQ

Recording on Windows: questions

How do I record my screen on Windows 11?

Press Win + Alt + R for Xbox Game Bar, or use the Snipping Tool for a region. For anything you need to trim or share afterwards, record in the browser instead so the footage lands straight in an editor.

Why will Game Bar not record my desktop?

By design: it targets a single application window and refuses the desktop and File Explorer. A browser-based recorder has no such limit, since it captures whatever screen or window you pick in the share dialog.

Where does Windows save screen recordings?

Game Bar writes MP4 files to Videos\Captures in your user folder. Recordings made here stay in your REQO projects, so you can reopen and re-edit them from any machine.

Do I need to install anything to record my screen on Windows?

No. The recorder runs in Chrome or Edge, so there is nothing to download, no extension to approve and no admin rights to ask IT for.

Is it really free?

Yes. Recording, editing and sharing are free with an account, and there is no time limit on a recording. Free exports carry a small REQO badge; Pro removes it.

Why not just use Xbox Game Bar?

Xbox Game Bar is fine for capturing raw footage. The gap is everything after: you still have to trim the dead air at the start, cut the bit where you lost your train of thought, and get the file to someone. That is the part REQO does in the same tab.

Can I record my screen and webcam at the same time?

Yes. Capture the screen with your webcam in a corner overlay, and reposition or resize it afterwards in the editor.

How long can I record?

As long as you need. There is no cap on recording length on the free plan.
