Why convert TS to MP4?

A .ts file is an MPEG transport stream: the format used for broadcast, HLS streaming segments and some camcorders. It is built to survive transmission errors, not to be edited or shared.

The practical problem: Browsers and phones will not open a raw .ts file. Editors either reject it or import it with broken timecode. Transport-stream overhead makes the file bigger than the same video in MP4.

MP4 solves that. Plays natively on every phone, browser, TV and editing app with no extra codecs. Every upload form accepts it, from YouTube and LinkedIn to Slack and email. H.264 keeps files small enough to send while still looking sharp at 1080p.

Transport streams come off broadcast capture cards, camcorder memory cards and HLS downloads. They carry per-packet overhead that MP4 does not, so the converted file is usually smaller as well as far easier to edit and upload.
