Turn your AVI file into a GIF that plays where you need it, right in your browser.
Drag and drop the file, or click to browse. Files up to 500 MB are supported, and nothing is installed.
GIF is already selected, so there is nothing to configure. You can switch formats in the panel if you need to.
We convert on our servers, usually in under a minute. Create a free account to download the GIF, or keep editing the file in REQO.
AVI is a Microsoft container from 1992. It still turns up in old archives, camcorder dumps and downloaded footage, but it predates modern compression and has no idea what a phone is.
The practical problem: Phones, browsers and social platforms do not play AVI at all. The legacy codecs inside waste enormous amounts of space compared with H.264. No support for modern features like proper streaming, chapters or clean seeking.
GIF solves that. Auto-plays and loops in email, docs, issue trackers and chat apps where video is blocked. Needs no player, no controls and no click to start.
Old AVI clips are a common source for reaction GIFs. Trim to the few seconds that matter first: GIF has no interframe compression, so length drives file size far more than resolution does.
| AVI | GIF | |
|---|---|---|
| Container | Audio Video Interleave (Microsoft) | Graphics Interchange Format |
| Typical codecs | DivX, Xvid, MJPEG and other legacy codecs | Indexed colour, up to 256 colours, no audio |
| Best for | Opening archive footage from the 2000s | Short silent loops in docs, chat and email |
| Plays on | Desktop players with the right codec pack | Everywhere an image can be shown |
| File size | Very large for the quality | Huge for anything over a few seconds |
Yes. Convert and preview the result for free, then create a free account to download it. There is no per-file charge and no watermark on the GIF itself beyond the free-plan badge.
No. The conversion runs on our servers and the whole flow happens in your browser, so it works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone and Android.
Visibly, yes. GIF is limited to 256 colours, so gradients and camera footage band. It is the right format for short UI loops and reaction clips, not for anything you want to look sharp.
Up to 500 MB per file. For anything bigger, trim or compress it first, both are free tools here.
Your upload is processed and then held only as long as your project needs it. Nothing is published, indexed or shared unless you create a share link yourself.
