How it works

How to add Italian subtitles

  1. Upload or record

Drop a file into the editor, or record straight from the browser. Nothing installs.

  2. Generate the English captions

Whisper transcribes the audio and cuts it into timed lines you can edit as text.

  3. Translate to Italian

Pick Italian in the captions panel. The timings stay put; only the words change.

  4. Export, burn in or dub

Download an SRT, burn the Italian captions into the video, or generate a Italian voiceover.

Italian expands modestly, and reads slower than it looks

Italian runs roughly 15 to 20% longer than English in characters, which is at the gentler end of these five. The catch is reading speed rather than width: Italian words are longer on average, so a caption at the same characters-per-second is a little harder to finish.

If a line feels rushed, the fix is fewer words rather than more time, because stretching a caption past its cut leaves it on screen over the next shot.

Accents are grammar, not decoration

The accents in Italian distinguish words rather than merely marking stress, so an export that drops them changes meaning rather than looking untidy. Both the exported file and the burned-in version carry them, because the caption fonts cover the full Latin range.

That is worth checking on any tool you use, not only this one: a subtitle burned without accents is a subtitle with mistakes in it.

FAQ

Italian subtitle questions

Will Italian accents render in the burned-in subtitles?

Yes. à, è, é, ì, ò and ù are in the caption fonts, so they render in the export as well as in the preview.

Do I have to re-time anything after translating?

No. Translation changes the words inside each caption and leaves the timings alone.

Can you dub the video into Italian?

Yes. Italian has an AI dubbing voice, so you can generate a spoken track as well as subtitles.

What formats can I export Italian subtitles in?

SRT, VTT, ASS and plain text, or burned into the video itself.
