Subtitles and captions dramatically increase how many people watch your video all the way through. A large proportion of video is watched without sound — on mobile, in a meeting, or with sound off by default. Here's how to add subtitles to any video in your browser using REQO.
Option 1: Auto-Generate Captions from Audio (Recommended)
- Open your video in REQO.
- Click the 'Captions' tab.
- Click 'Auto-generate' — REQO's AI transcribes your audio and creates timed caption blocks automatically.
- Review each caption block for accuracy. Click to edit any errors.
- Adjust timing if any caption appears too early or too late.
- Choose your style (font, size, position, color).
- Choose 'Burn in' if you want captions permanently visible, or 'Soft subtitles' if you want them togglable.
- Export.
Option 2: Upload an SRT File
If you already have a subtitle file (from a transcription service or previous project), REQO accepts SRT format. Upload it in the Captions tab and it will sync to your video automatically.
Tips for Great Captions
- Keep each caption block to 1-2 lines and under 42 characters per line.
- Make sure every speaker is captioned — not just the main one.
- Use high-contrast text (white text with a dark shadow or box) so captions are readable on any background.
- Always burn in captions if your target platform doesn't support soft subtitle tracks (most social platforms don't).
